Could it have been Erin (despite Mare and Lori discussing a Sandra)? She and John had an affair at the family reunion, Lori knew, and he’s the father of DJ. We know John had an affair before and Ryan confirmed he had another with the same person. Do we know anything about her whereabouts that night? She was with Mare at the bar but then left…and wasn’t with John when he came to the bar later with with Frank. My money is on John being the father for sure and maybe part of covering up the murder, but that there’s a wildcard killer…and I’m now wondering if it could be Lori. John’s whole “I need to hear you say it” seemed to be testing Billy’s convincingness and him taking him to the river to maybe kill him was because John doesn’t think Billy can pull it off. I think Billy helped cover up whatever happened, thus the blood. I think John has somehow convinced Billy to take the fall and I’m not convinced Billy even killed her. I actually took Lori telling Mare everything to be part of John’s plan to “protect the family.” That her role in covering up whatever went on / whoever killed Erin, was to confirm Mare’s suspicions about Billy. If Frank is involved, I’m not sure how John plays into this other than maybe covering up for Frank. Or maybe the blood was from something else. I don’t remember her being covered in blood when they found her. How Billy involved in all of this? Maybe he really loved Erin and when he found out they killed her, he cleaned her up. Remember how they firearm’s expert noted the gun was the kind Mare’s father would have had? Maybe Frank inherited that gun and either he or Faye used it on Erin. I also think it is possible that Faye killed Erin because of all of this and may have used Mare’s father’s gun. I just don’t understand why they keep alluding to the problems between Frank and Faye for three or four episodes now if it isn’t going to have a point in the finale. Once suspicion came towards him, maybe that pushed her over the edge and she left him and moved to her mother’s. I think even though he wasn’t he father of the baby, he may have been involved with Erin and Faye knew it and they were trying to deal with in privately. It makes no sense that the fiancé is so angry about a paternity test if the only reason it was given was because of an accusation by a teenager. I still think Mare’s ex-husband is involved somehow. It might be too late, though: Billy, clutching that tackle box, and John are fishing just as Mare approaches… and we’ll have to wait until next week’s finale to find out how it all ends. We don’t see the photo, but whatever it is compels the chief to bark at someone to get Mare on the phone. Just then, Erin’s friend Jess arrives at the police station to show the chief the photo she took out of Erin’s journals. He tells her to wait for backup, but she just floors it. (And he and Kenny are cousins!) Mare speeds off to the cabin, calling the chief on her way and telling him Billy is the killer. Even though John told Lori to keep quiet, she spills everything to her pal Mare - including the fact that Billy is the father of Erin’s baby. He says he’s ready to confess, but John wants to take him up to the family cabin one last time first… and as they pack up their tackle boxes, we see there’s a gun stashed in one of them.Īs John drives a dead-eyed Billy up to the fishing spot, Mare heads to Lori’s to find Billy. John confronts his brother and gets Billy to admit it through sobs: He killed Erin. Mare finds photos online of Billy leering at Erin at the reunion, and she digs up the fact that Erin’s pendant - that’s inscribed with the date of the family reunion, hmmm - was purchased under the name of “Ross,” too. Speaking of Billy, John’s father (hey, it’s Gordon Clapp from NYPD Blue!) fesses up that he found Billy covered in blood and frantically washing his clothes the night Erin died. Erin shared a cabin there with her dad Kenny… and with John’s brother Billy. At his funeral, Lori explains that the family reunion was a way to help cheer up Erin after her mom died. But when Beth tells Mare she hasn’t heard from Freddie in days, Mare checks on him and finds him dead with a needle in his arm… and also finds an old jersey that says “McMenamin” and a Ross family reunion T-shirt among his stuff. When Mare reveals she knows that he stole Erin’s old journals, he asks for a lawyer - and she says he’s now the prime suspect in the case. SNL Spoofs HBO’s Mare of Easttown: Kate McKinnon and Elon Musk StarĪfter Brianna tells the cops about Dylan going missing that night, they haul Erin’s ex back in for more questioning, and he stammers his way through a few lies, claiming he just couldn’t sleep and drove around for a while.
